We know that your printer not working properly can be stressful while juggling customers, upcoming orders, and orders firing from the kitchen. Fortunately, we have found that most common issues are relatively easy to fix with a few simple steps.
Always try these three steps FIRST:

If the problem is not resolved, try these quick troubleshooting steps next:
Are you printing from a terminal? If so, make sure Wi-Fi is turned off.
Are you printing from a handheld device? If so, make sure you're on the correct Wi-Fi network.
Is your receipt printer printing blank slips? If so, make sure you're using the correct paper (see ) and it is installed properly. The printer paper may have been loaded backwards, so try making an adjustment.
Common printer issues:

The Toast Kitchen printer will buzz and use lights to alert the user of errors. Check out the table below for more information:

This printer uses the standard ERC-38 ink cartridge/ribbon. It can be purchased from a variety of online sources including this one (external link).
If you've connected the power cable to your printer and an outlet, and when turned on the power light doesn't turn on, follow the steps below:
If it doesn't turn on and if you continue to have issues with your printer, please contact Toast Customer Care and reference code #519.
Take the following steps to troubleshoot:
| DHCP Enabled | DHCP Disabled |
| If your test receipt shows that DHCP is Enabled, your printer is set up for a dynamic IP address. All printers shipped from Toast since June 2021 are DHCP enabled. | If your test receipt shows that DHCP is Disabled your printer is set up for a static IP address.

The Toast Kitchen printer will print menu items in black and the modifier (if any) in red.
If the ticket prints in a mix of both colors, that means that the printer ribbon/cartridge wasn't installed correctly. Make sure it's pressed in all the way. Check out this Toast Central article, to learn more about installing the ribbon cartridge.
The serial number can be found at the bottom of the printer close to the top.

If the IP address is showing a series of "0's", it means your printer isn't connected to the network. If there's an IP address on the test print, it means it's a configuration issue. Follow the steps below to solve for either issue:
