Toast Web is where you’ll manage configurations to ensure your retail business is set up properly and ready to go live. Use this checklist as a starting point for Toast Web and POS setup.

Add Jobs in Toast Web


Add Employees and Assign Permissions

  • Once your jobs are set up, you’ll want to add your users and assign them to a job. If your employees need to access Toast Web to make changes to your settings, view reports, or manage inventory, invite them to create their own Toast Web account as well. Customize Shift Review

  • Shift review is an end-of-day task on the POS that provides employees with an overview of their sales transactions and other information before they clock out and close their shift. Use the shift review setup wizard in Toast Web to customize this step for your business. Learn more: Shift Review Overview.


Add and Edit Employee Time Entries

  • If an employee forgets to clock in or clock out on the POS, you’ll need to edit the time entry in Toast Web to ensure their hours worked are accurately tracked. Learn more: Edit Employee Time Clock Entries


View the Labor Summary Report

  • The Labor Summary report provides an overview of employee hours and pay. It also provides a summary of each employee and their labor data. Learn more: Labor Reports Overview.

Sales Setup for Toast Retail

Create Tax Rates

  • With Toast, you can customize state and federal tax rates that apply to the items you sell. You’ll create the tax rates first. Once items have been added to your retail item library, you’ll be able to apply those tax rates to the appropriate categories or category groups. Learn more: Toast Retail - Manage Tax Rates.


Set up Sales Categories for Reporting

  • Sales categories are classifications for your retail items that help you break down your sales data into meaningful groups. Once you create sales categories and assign them to your retail items, you’ll be able to filter reports based on sales category. Learn more: Configure Sales Categories.

 

Create Discounts

  • If you want to offer your guests any discounts or promo codes, you’ll need to create those in Toast Web before they can be applied to an order on the POS. Learn more: Get Started With Discounts.

Payments and Receipts Setup for Toast Retail

Customize Payment Options

  • You can configure how guests pay for items at your business by customizing your payment options in Toast Web. This includes settings for background processing of transactions (during network disruptions), signature and receipt thresholds, and other payment types (like gift certificates). Customize Receipts

  • You can adjust the information that appears on your printed receipts, including headers/footers and adding an image. Learn more: Configure Your Receipts.

 

Disable Tipping


Customize POS Quick Order Screen

  • The Quick Order screen on the POS is where you’ll scan and ring up items that your guests purchase. There may be some information on this screen that isn’t applicable to your business.
